Location: Classes will take place at University of Aveiro, Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics (DETI).

2015/16 Admission dates:

Applications are analyzed in several selection phases:

First phase: from April, 1st to May, 25th.
Second phase: from June, 23th to July, 22nd.
Third phase: from August, 17th to September, 14th.

After being accepted, follow the registration instructions.

Students can be selected to enroll in the program in both semesters.

Dual PhD Degree MAP-i and CMU:

To apply for admission at the dual degree MAP-i and Carnegie-Mellon University please look at CMU-Portugal Program.

How to apply to MAP-i?

To apply for admission to MAP-i, please read the following instructions carefully and be certain that you have met all requirements when you submit your application.

Applications should be submitted using the online form and include the following items. Click on the button "Submit application" to start filling the form. The first step will be to get a password (if you do not possess one already). You may "Save" your application at any time and return later and resume using the button "Editar dados".

  • Enter your Personal information.
    Fill in the online form with your personal data. Red fields are mandatory. In the field "Type of address" choose "Residência oficial". Upload a scan of your identity card or passport in the item "Photocopy of Identity Card/ Citizen Card or Passport". Choose the file with the button "Carregar documento". Select it and move it to the right box using ">>". Close the window.
  • Include a Statement of Purpose (in English).
    Prepare a concise one or two page essay that describes your primary areas of interest in research, your related experiences, and your objective in pursuing a PhD degree at MAP-i. Your essay should be specific in describing your interests and motivations. When describing your research interests, you should explain why you think they are important areas of study and why you are particularly well-suited to pursuing them.
  • Include your current Resume (curriculum vitae).
    Outline your education, research experience, work experience, publications, scholarships awarded, prizes and honors received, society memberships, and any other extracurricular activities. Include information about your fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Submit one diploma for each university degree mentioned in your resume.
    Please provide copies of the diplomas of each of your university degrees.
  • Submit one transcript for each university degree mentioned in your resume.
    Please provide transcripts of grades and a transcript of any certificate of English proficiency, such as TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Proficiency examination.

To complete your application you must also perform the following steps:

  • Ask for three letters of recommendation.
    Persons writing them should know you relatively well and be able to evaluate the quality of your previous work. At least two should be from faculty or recent employers. Letters should be sent directly to us by email (mapi@map.edu.pt) by the authors. Paper recommendations will not be accepted.
  • Pay 55€ of application fee by bank transfer.
