When MAP-i was distinguished as a FCT PhD Programme, it gained a pack of 24 scholarships, 6 per year over 4 years, that were allocated to candidate students over the years 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17. We have recently been informed that FCT has extended the program one more year, so there will be another 6 PhD scholarships associated with MAP-i for 2017/18. The schedule for the awarding process will be announced in the beginning of September.
Every year, FCT runs an open contest for PhD grants in all subject areas, including Computer Science. This is a competive call and the number of grants is not known beforehand. Important pointers and deadlines are:
Research project grants may be another alternative for funding your PhD. Obviously, your topic of research should be connected to the research project where you are working in order for this to be feasible. Notice that these grants do not cover the MAP-i fees.
